Tatsunoko VS Capcom Ultimate All-Stars commercial.

When it comes to video games, I am fiercely loyal to two game publishers: Square Enix and Capcom. Between the two of these companies, the amount of amazingly mind-boggling games that have changed the gaming industry time and time again is insane. While I’m not entirely convinced that Tatsunoko Vs Capcom will make gaming history, it does bring us old-timers back to the crazy Capcom Vs 2D fighters of the late 90’s.

But I digress. This post is less about the video game and more about the commercial. I think it’s pretty smart. I mean, what better way to advertise a game which would be competing against Street Fighter IV (on PS3 and Xbox 360) than to appeal to people’s nostalgia? And how does one accomplish that? Action figures and stop-motion! BAM! Instant favourite. I don’t even have to see actual gameplay videos of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom because this commercial tells me that the game’s selling point is not in its graphical or gameplay innovations, but its fun.

That’s what the Wii is all about, isn’t it?

P.S. – I love stop-motion.

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes.

Picked up Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for the Nintendo DS over the weekend because of all the great reviews it’s been getting. I’m really excited to start playing it (as well as Dissidia), but I’m trying to be good and finish Final Fantasy IV first, which I’ve been playing for months now.

My new strategy to beating Final Fantasy IV once and for all? Stop dying. Yes. That should work.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony.

I haven’t been keeping up with my nerdy RPG video game news as much as I’d like, so as a result, I completely missed out on this: Lunar: Silver Star Harmony for the PSP!

A remake of the original Lunar: Silver Star for the Sega CD platform, Lunar: Silver Star Harmony seems to follow the updated story of the brilliant PSX Silver Star Story Complete (even using the same anime cut scenes), but with Final Fantasy DS-style graphical upgrades.

Lunar: Silver Star’s been rehashed and released as new versions for several systems now, but I never seem to get tired of it. The updated graphics alone is enough to make me purchase this game (again) on January 12, 2010. To tide you over until then, make sure to check out the Lunar: Silver Star Harmony mini-game on Gung-Ho Works’ website.

The King of Fighters… movie.

Yes, I’m aware that this is yet another video game-turned-movie. And yes, I am also aware of the fact that it looks like a really bad video game-turned-movie. Still, I’ve always loved the King of Fighters franchise and all the SNK characters… It’ll be hard for me not to go see this in theatres.

I may be able to resist the temptation to watch the incredibly lame-looking Ninja Assassin, but there’s no way I can pass up on a fighting arcade game movie adaptation.

The movie’s set to be released sometime in 2010 (no month announced yet), and stars Maggie Q as Mai Shiranui (really?), Sean Faris as Kyo Kusanagi (really?), and Ray Park as Rugal Bernstein (really?!).

So, uh, Prince of Persia, anyone?

Guild Wars 2.

Watching this trailer for Guild Wars 2 by ArenaNet brings out my inner-nerd and makes me giddy with excitement.

As the sequel to the popular MMORPG Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2’s story continues 250 years after the Guild Wars: Eye of the North expansion. Guild Wars 2 will feature a new game engine, stunning graphics, changes to character development and Player Vs Player system. One thing that won’t be changing: no monthly fees (yay!).

Granted, I haven’t played Guild Wars in a few years, but this trailer makes me want to go out and buy a PC just for this game. No word yet on the release of Guild Wars 2.
