MOKUDIGI – Gametech cases.

Japanese gaming peripheral manufacturer Gametech has come out with these brilliant wood cases for the iPod, iPod Nano, iPhone, and the three versions of the Nintendo DS. Called Mokudigi (“moku” = 木 = wood), these cases can be found for sale on Gametech’s website, ranging from 6800 yen (for the iPod Nano case) to 16,000 yen (for the Nintendo DSi LL case). There’s also an additional option to have the wooden cases specially engraved.

Absolutely beautiful. I want.

Tatsunoko VS Capcom Ultimate All-Stars commercial.

When it comes to video games, I am fiercely loyal to two game publishers: Square Enix and Capcom. Between the two of these companies, the amount of amazingly mind-boggling games that have changed the gaming industry time and time again is insane. While I’m not entirely convinced that Tatsunoko Vs Capcom will make gaming history, it does bring us old-timers back to the crazy Capcom Vs 2D fighters of the late 90’s.

But I digress. This post is less about the video game and more about the commercial. I think it’s pretty smart. I mean, what better way to advertise a game which would be competing against Street Fighter IV (on PS3 and Xbox 360) than to appeal to people’s nostalgia? And how does one accomplish that? Action figures and stop-motion! BAM! Instant favourite. I don’t even have to see actual gameplay videos of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom because this commercial tells me that the game’s selling point is not in its graphical or gameplay innovations, but its fun.

That’s what the Wii is all about, isn’t it?

P.S. – I love stop-motion.

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes.

Picked up Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for the Nintendo DS over the weekend because of all the great reviews it’s been getting. I’m really excited to start playing it (as well as Dissidia), but I’m trying to be good and finish Final Fantasy IV first, which I’ve been playing for months now.

My new strategy to beating Final Fantasy IV once and for all? Stop dying. Yes. That should work.

Sribblenauts.

Developed by studio 5TH Cell and conceptualized by game designer Jeremiah Slaczka, Scribblenauts is a highly ambitious puzzle game for the Nintendo DS.

In Scribblenauts, the player will help protagonist Maxwell by writing literally anything imaginable on the DS’s touch-screen and watching that object come to life. There hasn’t been anything done like this before on any console, so big up to Jeremiah Slaczka for thinking outside the box and allowing players to do the same.

Scribblenauts comes out September 15th for the DS. If you’re one of the few people who still don’t have a DS yet, this game is the reason you should pick one up now.

Gameboy emulator for TI-83/84.

TI-BOY SE

Remember using the TI-84 calculator back in grade 11/12 math class? I never could figure out how to plot points on a graph on those things — but with the TI-BOY SE, who cares?

This Gameboy emulator can be played on TI-83+ calculators, and while not being the greatest emulator out there, one has to consider this is a calculator. Amazing!
