“Avakareta Life” – UnderCover by Jun Takahashi A/W 2010 Men’s Collection.

I’m not sure what the name of Jun Takahashi’s autumn/winter 2010 men’s collection for high-end streetwear brand UnderCover is supposed to mean (Avakareta?), but all I know is I really like everything in the collection. It’s just the perfect balance between style, comfort, with nothing over-the-top and flashy. Very solid collection.

久しぶり〜.

My apologies for neglecting the blog for a few days. I suppose I didn’t mention that I was to go on an extended weekend getaway to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alberta. Jasper’s a beautiful little town, no doubt, but to be honest, I was disappointed that the weather was actually not so different from Vancouver this winter. (Translation: No snow.) Still, I had a good time ice skating on a frozen Lake Beauvert, swimming in the Fairmont’s heated outdoor pool, and hiking around Jasper Park Lodge.

In other news: I want need this denim vest. Not much fashion-wise has caught my eye lately (which explains the lack of fashion-related updates), but I came across this guy’s denim vest and was very, very impressed. Love everything about it. Nice to finally come across new and inspiring streetwear!

Y-3 Spring/Summer 2010.

Short film featuring retired soccer star Zinedine Zidane for Y-3’s spring/summer 2010 collection.

Y-3’s Spring/Summer 2010 campaign features world soccer star Zinedine Zidane alongside a cast of models all wearing a selection of Y-3’s collection inspired by the power of soccer and the movement of the net. Timed to the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup(tm), the campaign celebrates an icon of sports heritage: the team portrait. Filmed & edited by Theo Stanley, styled by Nicola Formichetti and art directed by Doug Lloyd of Lloyd & Co, the film was shot on location in a stark urban setting, with models representing the eight soccer federations sponsored by adidas: South Africa, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, France, and Russia.

McFancy.

The Cool Hunter will be launching Access Agency, a marketing agency which creates “highly original, transformational, yet eminently practical and results-oriented strategies for companies to stage the kinds of offline brand experiences that will increase the economic value of their offering.”

One of the initial concepts Access has thought up? McFancy. As the name implies, it’s pretty much a fancy McDonald’s restaurant.

Access is hard at work creating ideas and concepts for some high profile brands. For McDonald’s, we envision a cool, surprising and fun mix of concepts. First is McFancy, an upmarket temporary McDonald’s store that launches at Fashion Weeks around the globe — London, New York, Paris, Milan, Sydney, Hong Kong. McFancy is part art installation, gathering spot and, of course, a restaurant that offers a traditional McDonald’s menu but packaged in a way that makes a playful yet stylish nod to the lifestyle of the highly desirable, influential consumers that attend Fashion Weeks.

Very cool — I would definitely eat there. McDonald’s french fries are already very addictive (albeit very unhealthy), so the added bonus of a luxury branded take-away box is just icing on the cake. Or should I say ketchup on the fries?

Adam Kimmel’s A/W 2010 ‘Casino’ collection.

Adam Kimmel’s A/W 2010 ‘Casino’ collection

Adam Kimmel’s A/W 2010 ‘Casino’ collection was inspired by the work of American artist and gambling man, George Condo. Taking characters from Condo’s paintings as the template for his models – with masks from Hollywood prosthetics whiz, Gabe Bartalos – the velvet suit and blazer-clad figures surrounded a craps table to create a casino-inspired scene, within a blacked-out room in Paris’ Yvon Lambert Gallery.

Guests were led into the final show via the gallery entrance hall, where live security camera films of the ‘Casino’ were projected; followed by a white-cube room – sparsely displaying a series of Kimmel’s trademark lookbook images – before ending up in the velvet roped-off main event, at the heart of the gallery.
