Chanel Ginza celebrates 5th anniversary.

Chanel - Ginza, Tokyo flagship store's 5th anniversary

Who said luxury brands are suffering a quick but painful death in Tokyo? (Oh yeah, I did.)

Chanel is celebrating the 5th anniversary of their super duper, almost-unimaginable 10-story Ginza, Tokyo flagship store by showing off an exhibit featuring frock, gown and jewellery designs by Chanel’s own legendary Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

The 5th anniversary exhibit is going on until December 27th only (apologies for the late notice). Better get in a quick peek before a) the exhibit ends, or b) the Chanel building in Ginza is taken over by another fast fashion retailer.

Harry Potter exhibit.

Harry Potter

Probably the only reason why any Vancouverite would ever be jealous of Torontonians: the Harry Potter exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre.

In this amazing exhibition, guests will get an up close and personal look at the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating the iconic props and costumes that appeared throughout the Harry Potter films. These authentic artifacts will be displayed in elaborate settings inspired by locations from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry including the Gryffindor common room, Hagrid’s hut and the Great Hall.

The exhibit will run at the Ontario Science Centre from April 9 until August 22, 2010. Tickets are on sale now, but visitors will have to buy tickets in specific time-slots. Tickets can be bought at the box office, online, or by calling 416-696-1000.

Science World, you see this? Please do everything in your power to make it happen in Vancouver.

Robots & Monsters at Ayden Gallery.

Robots and Monsters

Ayden Gallery’s holding their annual Robots & Monsters exhibit just in time for Halloween. The opening reception was actually this past Friday, which I heard was a great opening, but the exhibit will be on display until November 22nd.

I went down to Ayden Gallery yesterday during my lunch break. The exhibit had a lot of cool stuff – from paintings to robot plushies. It’s a very fun and cute exhibit with many affordable pieces on sale. I actually bought a painting done by Evil Tim for a great price.

Tim Burton x MoMA.

Tim Burton exhibition at MOMA

Because there are still apparently some people who need more reason to go to New York, here’s another one: the upcoming Tim Burton exhibition at NY’s Museum of Modern Art.

Following the current of his visual imagination from early childhood drawings through his mature work, the exhibition presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects. The opposing themes of adolescence and adulthood, and the elements of sentiment, cynicism, and humor inform his work in a variety of mediums—drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons.

The exhibition runs from November 22, 2009 until April 26, 2010. I don’t plan on being in New York during that period, but you have no excuse not to be.

Paul’s Art Collection Exhibit.

Paul's Art Collection

Held at the Paul Smith SPACE Gallery in Omotesando, Tokyo, Paul’s Art Collection exhibit will be displaying some pieces from Paul Smith’s personal art collection. Artists whose work will be part of the exhibit include Banksy, Bruce Weber, and Peter Beard.

I’m a big fan of Paul Smith, so seeing the kind of art he’s interested in would definitely be cool. I have a feeling we would have very similar tastes in art. You know, because we’re both so awesome.

Paul’s Art Collection will be held from October 15th until November 29th at 3F, 5-46-14 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. (Tokyoites get to have all the fun.)
