Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza is coming to Vancouver this July, under the Grand Chapiteau at Concord Pacific Place. Tickets are on pre-sale right now so you’ll have to sign up as a member to purchase tickets for the time being, with tickets starting at $50.
Cirque du Soleil shows in Vancouver are always very popular and sell out pretty quickly, so it’s a good idea to buy tickets early. Just got mine yesterday and am very excited to catch the show.
With the 2010 Vancouver Olympics just days away, the entire city is caught up in (pro-/anti-) Olympic fever. Just in time for the Winter Olympics comes Marathonologue, a show which celebrates the athlete in action — specifically, Japanese womens marathon runner Naoko Takahashi who won gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympics after taking killer hornet extract.
Marathonologue, an interdisciplinary production inspired by this ultra-marathon runner energized by the killer hornet extract, combines highland bagpipe, Japanese taiko and Balinese gamelan music by composers Michael O’Neill, Boyd Seiichi Grealy and I Wayan Sudirana, in live synchronization with computer-animated projections by Kenneth Newby and Aleksandra Dulic. The production brings to life the interplay between the physical landscape and a runner’s internal ‘mindscape’ as it develops and transforms in the experience of running a global marathon.
Marathonlogue plays at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver, from February 18th until the 20th. General admission is $20 and can be purchased from Tickets Tonight.
Vintage rhythm and blues by potent young artists. India.Arie’s Grammy-winning R & B, which recalls such soul masters as Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder, makes “faith, goodness and positive thinking seductive,” according to The New York Times. Raphael Saadiq is a throwback, a retro-soul practitioner who has mined a rich vein of old-school R & B and Motown cool since his days with 80s hit-makers Tony! Toni! Toné!
Tickets are already on sale at Tickets.com, starting at $42.50. The concert will be held at the Orpheum Theatre, and starts 8pm on Saturday, March 20th. This is going to be such a sick, sick, sick show. I am so excited.
Videos of both India.Arie and Raphael Saadiq after the jump. Don’t sleep!!
Free urban zipline during Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
As a downtown Vancouver resident, I am a little apprehensive about the Olympics coming up in a couple of weeks and basically taking over the downtown core. However, there is no denying that there will be some pretty crazy events going on in our usually quiet little city.
One of those events: free urban zipline across Robson Street, provided by Ziptrek Ecotours.
Come and be dazzled at Ziptrek’s latest venture. Perched above the law courts at Robson Square, guests will be provided the opportunity to zip over 170 metres (550′) across Robson Street. Guests will zip high above the crowds an exhilarating six stories over Vancouver’s iconic downtown core!
This unique endeavor will provide visitors the opportunity to experience the thrill and exhilaration of ziplining – brought to prominence in North America by Ziptrek’s flagship operation in Whistler. Switching the traditional backdrop of old growth forest, to cityscape, should prove to be an amazing and rare experience. Not to mention the fact it will be taking place at one of the key hubs of Olympic activity! Be sure to come and check out this exclusive attraction. Only during the Olympics, and Free!
Sounds nuts! I’ll definitely line up for this one. (If only downtown residents were given a free fast-pass to skip the line…) The zipline will be open from February 12th until the 28th, from 10:00am – 9:00pm. Mark your calendars, folks!
Local Vancouver artist Camilla d’Errico has a new clothing line called TANPOPO (translating to dandelion in Japanese) and Ayden Gallery is hosting the release party on Saturday, June 18th, 7:00pm-11:00pm.
Camilla, of course, will be attending and signing Tanpopo books. There will be limited series Tanpopo plush toys, tees, dresses, nightwear and other merchandise.
I’m a big fan of Camilla’s manga-inspired work. Unfortunately, I can’t go because the No Doubt concert at GM Place is on at the same time. Hope everyone who attends can pick up something nice.
