Missoni x Converse

Italian fashion house Missoni teamed up with Converse to come up with these super sweet Chuck Taylor’s, unveiled during Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2010 menswear show.

Looks great! Don’t think these will ever make it to Vancouver, but a boy can dream…

Dsquared2 S/S 2010.

Dsquared2 Spring/Summer 2010 runway show

Love them or hate them, Dean and Dan Caten know how to put on a good runway show. Dsquared2’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is imaginatively displayed on the runway through a faux-campsite setting — appropriate, considering it’s been dubbed the “Summer Camp Collection.”

A lot of Dsquared2’s collections in the past always seemed to me to be a strange mix of Abercrombie & Fitch with a Dolce & Gabbana twist. Not sure if that makes any sense, but needless to say, I didn’t always understand it. For this collection, though, I think I finally get what Dsquared2 is doing. And I kind of really like it.

Junya Watanabe S/S 2010.

Junya Watanabe S/S 2010

Easily one of my favourite fashion designers today, Junya Watanabe continues to impress with his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Described in a word as “snob”, the collection features fitted plaid jackets, preppy shirts, and cropped or cuffed pants.

I really appreciate and admire how although Watanabe’s collection is reminiscent of classic styles, it’s still very much fashion-forward and all very wearable.

Well played, Junya Watanabe. Well played.

Nas x Damian Marley – “Distant Relatives”.

Hip hop living legend Nas is collaborating with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley for an upcoming album, Distant Relatives. The album, themed upon African issues and global change, is set to drop later this year. Above is a video featuring the two artists discussing the making of the album.

“The globe right now is ready to change and this is the soundtrack for that.”

I’ve already got my tickets to see Nas and Damian Marley perform together at Vancouver’s Rock the Bells tour. This is going to be epic.

RIP Michael Jackson.

Cultural icon Michael Jackson passed away today and, having grown up in the 80’s, I found myself shocked and moved by the news. It’s an undeniable fact for anyone who was born in the 70’s and 80’s that his music reached us all. In fact, Michael Jackson is the only artist I can even identify from my early childhood.

Disregarding the scandal-laden life he had from the 90’s onward, I think I’m most depressed about a huge part of my childhood passing away with him. It’s a testament to his music – and the power of music in general – that a significant portion of my life can be associated with the Thriller and Bad albums.

May he rest in peace.
